DIY: Corrugated Roof
- 1). Cut purlins to the desired length across roof rafters. Space the purlins 3-feet apart. Purlins are thin slats positioned horizontally across the roof rafters to support roofing material.
- 2). Measure the length of the roof from the peak to 2-inches past the edge.
- 3). Mark the roofing at several places from the edge to cut using the measurement of the length of the roof. If the roof requires a full sheet and a partial sheet, add 4-inches to the partial sheet for overlap. Align a straight edge across the marks and draw the cutting line.
- 4). Cut the roofing along the cutting line with a fine tooth blade in a circular saw.
- 5). Install the roofing using one fastener on every second valley along the edge and every third valley along the centers. If a full and partial sheet are needed to span the roof, install the shorter sheet on the lower edge and overlap the top sheet by 4 inches.
- 6). Overlap adjacent sections on a crest so water drains to a valley along seams. Overlap sheets in the opposite direction of the most common wind direction to prevent wind from lifting the corrugated roofing from the roof.
