If you are an internet marketer or internet surfer than you must have heard or periodically use either Digg or Twitter, both services are different from each other but they are categorized in the same niche as social networking sites.
Digg is a user generated content site whereas you can submit stories and allow the public to either Digg them or Bury them.
The more Diggs a story get's the more exposure it will receive from Digg, meaning that it will get promoted to the front page, where it will then be visible to thousands of people.
The site is mainly used by webmasters to promote there own blogs and stories.
But lately Digg has been criticized over the way the voting feature works, for one of two reasons.
People with a high profile get terrible stories to the front page, which ends up with a lot of repetition and the second is that mostly every story from popular sites, whether they are good or not will hit the homepage.
Twitter on the other hand has been classed as the new generation to journalism.
It is basically a micro blogging platform where you can post your thoughts, happenings and anything else you can think of.
A tweet as it's know only gives you 140 characters to express yourself.
The site is basically Facebook's "What are you doing" section on steroids.
Both sites get a lot of traffic, but Digg has always been the leader between the two, which was until now.
Over the past year Twitter has just grown and grown in traffic, in fact there overall traffic has increased by more than 1000%.
Twitter made headlines earlier in January, providing the first pictures of downed US Airways flight 1549.
Again during January twitter has grown in popularity due to the following on Barack Obama during his appointment as president.
Twitter receives most of its traffic from the USA and UK markets and although they are doing very well they still have a long way to go to crack into the Top 5 sites and even compete with Facebook.
Below is a list of most visited social sites.
1.
Facebook 2.
YouTube 3.
Bebo 4.
MySpace 5.
Yahoo! Answers As you can see from the above both Twitter and Digg still have there work cut out to compete with names such as YouTube and MySpace which have become a part of peoples everyday lives.
