How to Check a PCV Valve
- 1). Start the engine and wait until it reaches normal operating temperature.
- 2). Squeeze the PCV hose with a pair of pliers. Use a rag to protect the hose from damage by the pliers. Also, make sure you pinch the hose closed, but do it as gently as possible to prevent damage to the hose.
- 3). Check to see if the PCV valve begins to make an audible "clicking" sound. If it does, then it is working properly. If it does not click, then the valve is bad and needs to be replaced.
- 4). Check any hoses between the intake manifold and the breather chamber for any deterioration or damage. Replace the hoses as needed.
