How to Set the Line for Live Bait on a Catfish Rod
- 1). Tie the 10- to 15-lb. test line to a double-ended swivel with a ½-oz. sliding weight attached.
- 2). Tie 3 feet of leader, either 20- to 30-lb. test or wire, to the other end of the swivel.
- 3). Tie a size 8 circle hook to the end of the leader.
- 4). Firmly attach your choice of catfish bait to the hook.
- 5). Cast your bait to where you want it to land.
- 6). Wait at least three to five seconds for the fish to secure the bait in its mouth when you start to feel the line pull. A circle hook allows the hook to set itself as the fish swims away with the bait.
- 7). Close the bail of your reel and firmly lift the tip of your rod straight up. Reel in the fish.
