How to Install a Corvair Sunroof
- 1). Enter the front seat of your Corvair. Make a hole in the headliner using a sharp blade. Cut away the headliner until you locate the support beam that goes across the roof.
- 2). Cut away the support beam using a metal saw. Remove the beam from the vehicle. Smooth down the edges left by the removed beam using a metal file.
- 3). Use a measuring tape to locate the center of the area left by the removed beam. Drill a hole through the located center area and through the roof. This will be the center of where your sunroof will go.
- 4). Remove the sunroof template from your installation kit and place it on the roof. Place the template on the roof so that the hole in the roof is at the dead center of the template. Mark out the template on the roof using a piece of chalk. Remove the template from the roof.
- 5). Place the metal shears in to the hole made by the drill and cut from the hole out to the beginning of the chalk line. Cut around the chalk line to cut out the hole in the roof for your sunroof. Remove the cut out roof panel away from your Corvair and discard in your trash or take to your local scrap yard.
- 1). Lift the frame of the sunroof from your installation kit and in to the hole made by the removed roof area.
- 2). Use a socket wrench to attach the mounting bolts which secure the frame of the sunroof to the roof of the Corvair.
- 3). Enter the inside of your vehicle and attach the headliner, wind deflector and weatherstripping to the underside of the sunroof using a Phillips screwdriver.
- 4). Lift the glass panel on to the top of the sunroof. Take the clamps from the installation kit and place them around the glass panel. Tighten the bolts on the clamps with a socket wrench to secure the glass panel in place.
- 5). Attach the crank lever to the handle control on the front of the sunroof inside the vehicle. Turn the crank to open and close the sunroof.
