How to Block Noises Outside Your Door
- 1). Line the inside of the door frame with the foam tape. Use scissors to trim the tape exactly so that when the door is closed, it presses snugly against foam rather than the wooden door frame. Test the door a few times, and double up the foam tape wherever there are gaps.
- 2). Measure the door and record its measurements. Add 1 inch to each measurement and cut the acoustic foam to size. Center the foam on the door so that there is at least a 1/2-inch border around the door's sides, top and bottom; this will ensure a snug fit. Affix the foam to the door using double-sided tape. Repeat with the front of the door, this time cutting the foam to fit exactly; the foam must clear the doorframe when the door swings open.
- 3). Fasten the door sweep to the bottom inside of the door. Position the rubber part of the door sweep to cover the space between the bottom of the door and the floor. Use a screwdriver to affix the metal brace to the door.
- 4). Turn on a white noise generator once the door is closed to enhance the reduced sound quality of the room.
