How to Make Deer Feeders at Home
- 1). Invert a 30-quart storage container, and drill a few holes across the bottom of the container. Between 10 and 20 holes scattered over the bottom will let water drain from the container without allowing too much feed to escape. This will serve as the base of your deer feeder.
- 2). Lay the PVC pipe on a table or work bench. Use a saw to cut three slots in one end. The slots need to be at least 4 inches long and 1/2 inch wide to allow for proper food distribution.
- 3). Turn the pipe so the slotted side rests against the bottom of the container. Cut two sets of holes on each side of the pipe. Place one set of holes towards the bottom of the pipe and one set near the top. Tie the pipe to the container with kitchen twine.
- 4). Transport the finished feeder to a grouping of trees in your yard, and secure the feeder to a large tree. Use three lengths of twine, wrapping each around the pipe and the tree. Place one piece directly above the container, one at the top of the pipe, and one in the middle to keep feeding deer from pulling the feeder away.
- 5). Pour deer feed down the pipe to fill the feeder. Add enough to the base to fill it approximately a quarter of the way full. Cap the open pipe with the PVC end cap.
