How to Set Jumpers on an IDE Drive
- 1). Put on an antistatic wrist strap to keep the IDE drive safe from electrostatic damage.
- 2). Turn the drive around so that the hard drive connections are facing you. Find the set of pins located between the 40-pin slot on the left and the 4-pin slot on the right.
- 3). Use a pair of tweezers to remove the jumper covering the set of pins. Check the manual included with the IDE drive to determine which pins to place the jumpers on. For example, some drives require you to put the jumper on the seventh and eighth jumper pins to set the drive as master.
- 4). Use the tweezers to slide the jumper onto the appropriate set of pins.
