Apple Provides Security Patch to Fix Shellshock Issue


Late Monday (September 29, 2013), Apple released a security update to address the vulnerability in the Bash shell used in Terminal. The weakness in the Bash shell could have allowed code execution of just about any type, which in turn could have allowed someone to implement anything from a keyboard logger to gain access to passwords and account information, to adding your Mac to a botnet for nefarious use… Read more.

Rumors suggest that Apple will use an October event to announce new 27-inch iMacs with Retina Displays, available in at least some configurations. Apple Media Event on October 16th?


Re/code says that October 16 will be the date for an anticipated media event to introduce new iPads, Retina iMacs, and OS X Yosemite. Re/code cites an unnamed source for the rumor, which puts the event on a Thursday, a slightly unusual day of the week for Apple media events.

Apple tends to prefer Tuesdays for announcements because it allows for the most press coverage during the rest of the week. A Thursday event would have a short press cycle, with only the following day for news; many technology sites don't provide extensive weekend coverage… Read more.

Leonardo DiCaprio Backs Out of New Film About Steve Jobs


According to an article in The Hollywood Reporter, Leonardo DiCaprio, who was in negotiations to play Steve Jobs in a movie based on Walter Isaacson's book about Mr. Jobs, has instead bowed out.
