The Best PC Games to Buy
- Valve is the developer of one of the most popular PC franchises, the Half Life series. Half Life 2 is arguably the best game that's been released on the PC and the Orange Box not only has Half Life 2, but it also has Half Life Two: Episode 1, Half Life Two: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. Team Fortress 2 is one of the most popular first person shooting games for the PC and Portal is one of the most innovative games released in 2007. With five games in one, The Orange Box is an excellent value.
- World of Warcraft is a "massively multiplayer online roleplaying game," or "MMORPG." Boasting millions of players and a vast world to explore, players create and control a character that they guide through quests. The objective is to increase their characters' level and find equipment to make their characters more powerful. Blizzard, the developer, is constantly developing new content and adding it to the game so there are always new experiences for players.
- BioShock, developed by 2K Boston, was released in 2007 and is described as a first person shooter, but is in fact so much more. Players explore an underwater dystopia called Rapture as they discover what went horribly wrong. Rapture was constructed as a libertarian haven where no man is subject to the law and intellectuals are free to act as they please. By the time the player gets there, mutated citizens of Rapture are waiting around every corner, and "little sisters" extract genetic material from the hundreds of dead littering the streets while being protected by giant guardians in dive suits and armed with giant drills. Players master a variety of skills and learn several super powers as they navigate through BioShock's intense and inventive story.
- Civilization IV (Civ 4) was released in 2005 by Firaxis. It is a real time strategy game (RTS) where players collect resources, build cities and progress their civilization through time. Players try and make their civilization the dominant one in the world through diplomacy (primarily through trading of goods), combat, the spread of religion and progression of technology. Lauded for its depth and strategy, it is one of the best games in the Civilization series and one of the best games for the PC.
