When you're looking for ways to add a little bit of originality to a design scheme, use feathers to give your space volume and texture. Choosing to design with pheasant feathers gives you an alternative to other feather types, like ostrich and peacock feathers which are not nearly as sturdy or long. Luckily, pheasant feathers are available in a variety colors and styles or can be dyed to your desire. - For a quick and easy spruce to your living or office space, give your room a contemporary flair with a burst of texture using pheasant feathers. Use a tall clear vase of any style, it can be a cylinder, pear-shape or square. Use clear craft glue to affix feathers evenly distributed around the vase. You will find using a cylinder or tall square vase easier to work with. When you fill the vase with water and flowers, you will have contrasting texture all with a natural theme. Alternatively, if you would prefer to use the design within florals, glue the feathers to the inside of the vase with the colored side of the feathers facing outward. Choose to leave the vase as is or fill with decorative vase sticks and add a few of the remaining feathers to the arrangement.
- If you're really looking to create a signature piece that is both unique and easy to do, gather enough feathers to cover a side table like a side table or TV tray. You will need to use a glue that will affix permanently to the table top and in some cases you may need to sand the top down with a mid-grade sanding paper or brush. You can find all the glues and sanding supplies at your local art supply or hardware store. Arrange the feathers in the design you want. Because the pheasant has so many original blends of markings in its feathers, each piece you create will look different when you choose to use the feathers with striping or spots. Glue several layers of feathers on top of other feathers for more depth and let dry completely. This table should be used for decorative purposes only.
- If you are really interested in working on a décor project well equipped for a home, office or event design challenge, consider creating a single wall of feathers for a room with flair. Depending on your artistic taste and preference, you can choose to use silver pheasant tail feathers which are white with silver specs or the colorful Lady Amherst feathers which have a python snake-like print on the left side and a leopard-like print on the right. Make the decision before you order if you want the feature wall to just be an accent to everything else in the space or a focal point. Affix a board, thin plywood sheet or light cardboard to the wall using nails or a heavy-duty staple gun so this decoration is not permanent. Apply feathers with glue and let dry.
