Studio grants are primarily awarded by nonprofit organizations looking to support working artists. They typically grant free studio space and a small stipend to individuals who need financial support to create their art. Studio grants, also sometimes called residency grants, are available for painters, sculptors, sketch artists, etc. - Women's Studio Workshop operates a space for female sculptors, printmakers, photographers, and book artists, among others. Its grant program awards six- to eight-week residency opportunities for female artists. Winners also receive stipends of $2,000 to $3,000 and $700 for art materials. However, the main draw of the grant, is the housing and unlimited access to a studio that it provides. Interested artists should send in a description of their most current project, a resume and images of recent work by April of each year to be considered.
