How to Replace the Serpentine Belt on a 2000 Plymouth Voyager
- 1). Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels, and lift the passenger side of the van using a floor jack. Position a jack stand under the frame, and lower the vehicle onto the jack stand. Remove the tire using a lug wrench. Place the tire and lug nuts out of the work area to avoid accidents.
- 2). Using a 10-mm socket and socket wrench, remove the inner splash shield from the fender well to expose the belt.
- 3). Remove the belt by releasing the spring-loaded tensioner. The tensioner is located on the front of the motor between the crankshaft pulley and the a/c compressor pulley. Insert the square drive end of the socket wrench into the square hole on the tensioner arm. Rotate the tensioner clockwise, and slip the belt off one of the pulleys. Remove the belt from the remaining pulleys and the engine compartment.
- 4). Install the new belt by routing it around the pulleys according to the belt routing guide located under the hood or in the service manual. Release the tension on the tensioner, and slip the belt over the tensioner pulley.
- 5). Check for proper belt position and alignment. The belt must be sitting flat on all of the pulleys and must be routed in the correct order. If an adjustment to the position must be made, release the tension and move the belt as needed. Install the splash shield and tire. Lower the vehicle by raising it off the jack stand with the floor jack, removing the stand and lowering the jack slowly to avoid injury. Remove the wheel chocks, and go for a test drive.
