How to Do a Rebuttal to a Performance Review

    • 1). Ask questions during your performance review and request specific examples of how your supervisor feels you did not meet expectations.

    • 2). Outline your arguments based on what was covered in the performance review and areas that you disagree on. Write out a description for each point and explain why you disagree. Give a copy to your boss.

    • 3). Prepare a one-page summary of the contributions that you provided over the last year or since your previous performance review. The summary can demonstrate how you helped your employer achieve its goals. Include positive comments from coworkers.

    • 4). Go to your supervisor with the arguments for your review and the one-page summary. If your supervisor dismisses your concerns, take your response to the human resources department. This will give you solid ground on which to stand should your situation advance to litigation.
