How to Use a GeForce Graphics Card on Linux
- 1). Access the software sources configuration by selecting "System," "Administration," and then "Software Sources."
- 2). Enable support for downloading "Proprietary Drivers" and "Restricted Software" and then click "Close."
- 3). Launch the Hardware Drivers management panel. This is usually found under "System," "Administration," and "Hardware Drivers."
- 4). Select the "NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Card" to install and utilize the drivers for your GeForce graphics card.
- 1). Download the driver file from the NVIDIA website (see Resources).
- 2). Launch a Terminal by selecting "Programs," "Accessories," and "Terminal."
- 3). Change the base directory to wherever the NVIDIA driver file is located by executing a "cd" command with your directory specified (for instance: "cd /Home/Downloads/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg#.run").
- 4). Start the NVIDIA driver script by executing the following command:
"sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg#.run". - 5). Follow the graphical installation wizard to install the NVIDIA GeForce drivers. Be sure to select "Yes" when the wizard requests modifying the X Server files to load the NVIDIA driver software. Once completed, click "Exit" and restart your computer.
