How to Lay Self-Stick Tiles in Rooms With Halls
- 1). Inspect the floor. Scrape large, stuck on debris free with your putty knife. Sweep. Pick up the debris with your dustpan and discard.
- 2). Fill your mop bucket with clean water. Mop the floor repeatedly until it is clean. Change the mop water after each mopping to be sure you are only using clean, fresh water. Set up a fan, point it into the work area and turn it on to dry the floor.
- 3). Stretch your tape measure across the width of the hall. Make a mark 6 inches on either side of the center of the hall. Repeat the marks every 5 feet along the length of the hall.
- 4). Use a 6-foot level as a straightedge to connect the marks on each side of the center of the hall leaving two, straight, parallel lines. Continue these lines into the room all the way to the far wall.
- 5). Peel the paper off a tile. Stick the tile to the floor at the beginning of the hallway between the two lines. Lay tiles on either side of the first until you reach the walls. Cut the tiles as necessary with your shears.
- 6). Lay tiles down the hall and into the room to cover the entire floor. Always start each row with the first one between your two center lines.
