    • 1). Remove the lower cowl from the front of the Ninja by removing the bolts that secure the lower cowl to the upper cowl. Use an adjustable wrench to remove the bolts.

    • 2). Start the engine, and allow it to run for five minutes. This heats up the oil and thins it out so it drains faster.

    • 3). Locate the three bolts on the bottom of the Ninja's motor. The large center bolt holds the filter in place, and the bolt off to the side of the center bolt serves as the drain plug. Place a drain pan under the plug, then remove the plug with an adjustable wrench to drain the oil out of the engine. Place the drain plug back into the engine.

    • 4). Remove the center bolt to drop the oil filter and oil filter base plate out of the engine. Place a new filter onto the filter base plate, and slide the filter back into the engine. Bolt the filter plate back to the engine.

    • 5). Drain 1.5 quarts of motorcycle engine oil into the oil filler spout located on the right side of the engine.

    • 6). Start the bike, and check the oil level. Add oil as needed.

    • 7). Bolt the lower cowl back to the upper cowl on the front of the bike.
