Take Google Keep to the Next Level with 7 Tips and Tricks

Google Keep is more simple than other popular note-taking programs, but check out these tips and tricks for getting even more done in Google's online note app.

Set Location Triggered Alerts or Reminders with Google Keep

This is one of my absolute favorite features of Google Keep. With location-triggered reminders, Google Keep can help you remember things relative to space as well as time. For example, I set this note reminder for my destination airport. That way I don't miss anything if my flight gets delayed.

What if you could be reminded to pick up that hard-to-find recipe ingredient as soon as you enter the one store in town that has it?

Or remember to ask your doctor about a certain medication you heard about?  Pretty cool!

Use SearchTags in Place of Folders in Google Keep

Google Keep does not offer you organizational tools such as folders, to group like notes together.

You can instead use search tags such as '#CategoryName' to create a 'folder' of sorts, such as #Office.

Also, remember that you can search for text in images as well as your other notes.

    Reorder Notes in Google Keep

To reorganize the ordering or display of notes in Google Keep, select and drag or hold down a tap on a given note then drag to a new location. The other notes will move to accommodate this repositioning. Simple!

Customize List Settings in Google Keep

You can customize whether a Google Keep list is built from the bottom or the top as well as what happens to items you check off your list.

If you have not already, add a new list note in Google Keep by clicking the icon in the upper right, keeping in mind you cannot turn a regular note into a list. You would have to copy and paste.

Then, click the faded triple line icon next to one of the checkboxes in your list.

Now you can adjust these settings, which can apply to all future lists you create.

Collaborate and Share Using Google Keep

Depending on your version of Google Keep (web, Android, or Chrome), you have a few sharing options for collaborating with others in Google Keep.

These are not real-time collaborations, however, like you might be used to in Google Apps.

Depending on which version you are using, you can send notes to email, cloud accounts including Drive, Evernote, or Bluetooth and some social networks including Facebook or Google +.

Consider adding Sketch for Keep to your Android device, for streamlined integration of handwriting capabilities.

In other words, this app allows you to scribble things down rather than typing them in.

Note that you also need to install the Handraw App for Sketch for Keep to work. In Handraw, you need to change the setting from paint bucket to pen.

You can remove images or audio recording associated with a given note in Google Keep, though I had a hard time seeing the icon at first. It is a small little 'x' in the lower part of the image or audio element. Look for it there once you have the note open.

Tap the 'x' to remove the object from your note.
