Alternatives to Cabinet Sinks in Laundry Rooms
- An alternative to cabinet sinks in the laundry room is a drying bar or retractable clothesline. Use this alternative over an area with a drain to hang drip-dry or air-dry delicates and clothes that have a tendency to shrink. Install a vent fan to remove hot, humid air so your clothes dry properly. Furthermore, unlike a drying rack that only holds a few articles of clothing at once, a drying bar or clothesline allows you to hang a row of shirts. A drying bar is also useful as a place to not only dry clothes but also hang clothing while you iron.
- A shower stall in the laundry room is a place where you can give your pets a bath, care for plants and rinse and clean items like golf clubs, large plastic toys and rubber boots. Likewise, placing a retractable clothesline in the shower stall allows you to drip-dry clothing and other items that can't go in the dryer. Group all of the plumbing into one area by installing the shower close to your washing machine.
- Common in Scandinavian countries, a drying cabinet is another alternative to cabinet sinks. Used in addition to traditional tumble dryers, a drying cabinet operates by circulating air throughout the cabinet. Hang clothes to dry simultaneously with delicate items, flat items and shoes in the drying cabinet, which doesn't wear out clothing as much as a tumble dryer. Some features include programmed and timed drying cycles, multiple temperature adjustments and dryness levels, and a child safety system.
- Replace cabinet sinks with sorting bins to improve efficiency in the laundry room. Sorting bins, including wire bins, laundry carts, plastic laundry baskets and wicker baskets, are helpful organization tools to hold clean clothes and return clean items to the proper rooms. Bins can also be used to sort bedroom, bathroom and kitchen linens or to separate delicates, clothes to dry clean, whites and colored clothing. Include a hamper for dirty clothes.
