How to Roll Your Own Filtered Cigarettes
- 1
We are going to use one of the most expensive 'domestic' brands around, American Spirit. There are many great brands out there so don't hesitate to try them. - 2
As with the tobacco, there are many great brands of filtered tubes. I am fond of these because they are a touch wider than normal and are tough. - 3). I like Rizla for my shooter but as with above, many good ones out there. This one tends to run less than $10 so it is a good choice for the beginner.

First you need to 'stage' your area. I like to use a 9x13" Pyrex baking pan. It gives you plenty of room to work with. Put some loose tobacco in one corner, and a handful of tubes in the other. - 5
Next, place your tobacco loosely in the shooter. The amount will vary and you will get the hang of it with a bit of practice (it took me 2 cans to really get the hang of it). - 6
Next you will use the tamper tool to fill the shooter space properly. press it down directly centered. - 7
Now tamp it from the front. - 8
Then tamp it from the back. - 9
Do the above three steps until it looks like this. - 10
Slide a tube on the receiver end, when you close it the tube will lock in place. - 11
Firmly but gently, in a smooth motion, slide the shooter back until it stops. - 12
Now slide it forward until it stops. - 13
Open the lid and pull off your now packed cigarette, it should look like this. - 14
Depending how you carry them (in a case they seem fine, but loose in a box they do tend to 'shed') you may want to tamp the end. I do and have no problem with tobacco leaks. This is where I find a chopstick handy. - 15
Your end should now look like this. If you plan rough travel you might try my trick of folding the edge down. - 16
One can of tobacco and one box of tubes should not match up. They have never done so for me. A can of this tobacco runs me about 15$ and the tube are roughly $2-2.50 and I get about 150 cigarettes out of that. They are strong and are a bit fatter so I find we often smoke a half at a time. Here is what I tend to end up with.
