    • 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable (or grounding cable) from the negative lead of the car's battery. The grounding cable is the black cable that connects the battery to the frame of the vehicle. Use a 10 mm tool to loosen the bolt holding the cable clamp around the negative battery lead. Remove the clamp from the lead.

    • 2). Remove the old stereo deck. This process varies among different vehicles. For most, you will need to remove the panelling around the stereo deck. Consult your vehicle's repair manual for the procedure to access the stereo. Once the old deck is removed from the dashboard, disconnect the wiring groups at the back of the stereo. There are four groups of wires: the antenna, the power supply (to the battery), the speakers and the amplifier. Removal of these wire requires pulling with moderate force, or the engagement of a release mechanism at the base of the wire connections.

    • 3). Connect the wire groups to the Sony Xplod CD Player. The Sony deck has clearly marked outlets for the connections. For older vehicles, you may need to first connect the wiring from the vehicle to a wiring adapter harness before connecting to the rear of the Sony Xplod CD Player.

    • 4). Place the Sony deck into the docking station of the vehicle. Because the fitting among various vehicles may be imprecise, it is recommended that you use a universal faceplate adapter. The faceplate adapter will allow the Sony CD player to fit perfectly into the dash of your vehicle.

    • 5). Reconnect the grounding cable to the battery. Place the clamp around the negative lead. Tighten the bolt on the clamp until the clamp cannot be moved by hand.
