Cheese is one of those few foods that have passed the taste of time from all the ages and still being loved by the mass across the globe. And people belonging to different countries have discovered hundreds of recipes with cheese one of which is pineapple flavored cheese or pineapple halo as it is popularly known as. Actually combining different fruits with cheese is very popular and among the fruits pineapple is considered a great option for the cheese lovers.

The origin and the popularity of the Pineapple cheese

The credit of making the first pineapple cheese goes to Lewis Norton who made cheese forming in pineapple shaped molds. It also weighed around 8 to 9 pounds which is similar to the typical weight of a pineapple. After the cheese being pressed was kept in the string-bags (specially knitted for this purpose) and left for months. This created or rather left a criss-cross design on the surface of the cheese making it look like a pineapple itself. He patented his method and soon it gained much popularity.  The cheese was wrapped in a silver cover having a silver top resembling exactly a pineapple.

It was all about the design and not the process itself

So it is important to note that what he patented was the shape and the surface design and not any new preparation-style. The preparation of his pineapple cheese was however quite similar though not strictly to a Cheddar cheese. So at that point of time a pineapple cheese had nothing to do with an original pineapple as it did not contain any part of the pineapple in the preparation. After the death of Lewis his family inherited his prosperous business and continued to flourish. The cheese factory made by him is supposedly one of the earliest one that existed in the US.

What is Pineapple cheese of our times?

However in our present time Pineapple Flavored Cheese does not necessarily mean the pineapple shaped and sized cheese as designed by Lewis but can refer to a variety of cheese recipes that has the association of pineapple with it in any way or form whatsoever. The sweet taste of the pineapple goes perfectly well with salty cheese and thus makes a great contrast to each other which made it largely popular among the cheese lovers of all times. But the most popular cheese involving pineapple is pineapple halo cheese that is made with mushrooms with rich cream cheese. Pineapple halo cheese has undergone numbers of changes and moderation and given birth to a number of exciting cheeses with different texture, taste and flavor based on the country where they are produced.

To conclude it would be worth suggesting that the Pineapple flavored cheese can be a great addition to a cheese and wine party and a perfect blend with a festive drink. So if you at any point of time plan to throw a cheese and wine party just try the suggested blend and you are sure to be overwhelmed to receive the applaud of your guests.
