How to Remove Spills From a Smooth Top Cooktop
- 1). Turn off all the burners. Allow the smooth top to cool down completely before wiping up spills to prevent burning your hands. Dampen a washcloth with water and wipe up the spills quickly.
- 2). Remove any lingering residue with hot, soapy water. Wipe the spill with a clean washcloth. Rinse the cooktop with clean water and dry the surface with a towel.
- 3). Stir 4 tablespoons of baking soda into 1 quart of warm water to remove tough spills. Scrub on the cooktop with a nonabrasive sponge. Always rinse the baking soda solution off with clean water to prevent leaving any residue behind. Dry the cooktop off with a towel.
- 4). Apply a commercial smooth cooktop cleaner to the stove top if the spill remains. Contact the stove manufacturer for a recommended product to use. Always read the instructions on the cleaner carefully before you apply it.
- 5). Remove thick-burned spills with a razor blade. Hold the razor blade against the spill at a 30-degree angle and slowly scrape the stain off the stovetop. Rinse with a damp rag to remove the residue.
