Are You Grounded?
The "grounded" I am talking about here is regarding spiritual grounding.
How do you know if you're grounded, or not? What does it mean and why is it important? In simple terms, not being grounded means that you are not in the moment, not present.
Your mind wonders off, although this moment is all you have, right now.
Especially today's numerous communication gadgets "pre-occupy" us.
Do you have lots of great ideas for personal growth but cannot get things started; do you daydream a lot, can't find your keys, cut yourself accidentally or trip over things? All of these are signs for not being grounded.
Once you are fully grounded and present on a physical, mental/emotional and spiritual level, you have created the perfect environment for manifesting the life you want! Focusing on your breath is one of the simplest ways to ground yourself.
Stop reading this article for a moment and become aware of your breathing RIGHT NOW.
Do you have room to think of anything in the past or future? No! To top this off - most of us are shallow breathers - take a couple of deep breaths throughout the day, every day, preferably outside to increase oxygen flow.
Inhale through your nose for five counts, and exhale through your mouth.
Breathing automatically signals the body to relax, to bring in energy and to focus on the present moment.
Do it as often as you can throughout the day, and especially when experiencing stress, anxiety or fear.
Make this a daily routine.
Another easy and fun way to bring yourself back in the moment is using aromatherapy.
Aromatherapy is known to work through the limbic system.
As the base of our emotional centre in the brain it is partly responsible for hormone secretion, motivation and moods.
By breathing in certain aromas, our brain sends the appropriate neuro-chemicals through the body to both relax and calm, or to stimulate and energize, depending on what the message is.
My personal favourite is a blend of Vetiver, Ylang Ylang and Cinnamon in a Jojoba oil base.
It brings you right back in the moment.
Put a few drops on your palm, rub them together and breathe in the aroma 3 times and see how much easier the task at hand is accomplished.
It's also beneficial as a mood lifter and it helps you relax.
