103 19
To this day, many Americans including myself don't understand what it is like to live during the Great Depression.
Many of my family members will talk about what is was like to live during this horrible time in the nation we live in.
Many people during this time were forced to see how strong they were.
Communities were forced to pull together to survive during this trying period.
During this horrible time in history, it brought down many individuals that had financial security down to their knees, and many people that were stable in many industry's to a grinding stop.
The day of October 29, 1929, will be remembered as one of the grimmest days in the history of this nation.
Black Tuesday as it is known as, was the day that the stock market crashed.
Many Americans were affected by this, and it caused poverty and tragedies to many people.
To this day there is still much disagreements between the experts on what caused this to happen.
If a person will communicate with the older generation, they can see how people survived this.
We seen on September 11th, what happens when something of this magnitude happens.
Whether it is of natural causes, or of man made, it can make a nation come to a grinding halt.
It really defines the nation we live in when something like this happens.
During this time in the history of this nation, all communities had to come together.
So many people lost everything they had, but there was some people that still were fortunate to have not lost everything.
Those individuals helped those that were in need.
This included many families and individuals.
Toady we live in a nation that everyone has so much.
When this tragedy happened , the people were accustomed to not having many material possessions.
A majority of Americans grew large gardens to feed their families.
This helped many American's have food, when there was no money.
They made their clothes themselves.
The used and reused items, and the only time they threw anything away, was when it was completely worn out.
When the weather was warm, many people slept in parks with their families.
The reason the families done this, was they didn't have to pay rent of their homes for those warm months.
This helped many Americans survive until the winter months arrived.
In that time, people were stronger that they are today.
When this happened, people had no other choice than to sacrifice certain things to survive.
They pulled together to be able to survive these harsh time.
Even though this was a very hard time, the people today could learn much from the way the people pulled together to survive.
