There are several requirements for a GED high-school equivalency certificate in Illinois. The test fee is $35, due at registration. Registration must be completed at the Regional Office of Education (ROE) in the county where the applicant lives. - To take the GED test in Illinois, a candidate must be at least 17 years old, not be a high-school graduate or already have a GED certificate, and must have lived in Illinois for at least 30 days.
- A GED candidate must register for the test at the Regional Office of Education in the county where he lives. Offices can be found by using the ROE locater on the Illinois Community College Board website, iccb.org. Cook County residents must register at the Cook County GED Testing Office.
- The test is made up of five sections; science, math, social studies, reading and writing. To pass the test, a candidate must score at least 410 points on each section and have a combined score of at least 2,250. The candidate must also pass the Illinois State Constitution exam, which is graded on a pass/fail basis.
