4 Reasons Rehab Could Be Good For Manziel"s Career
Cleveland Browns quarterback, Johnny Manziel, has entered rehab after a notorious season of potentially playing harder off the field than on. While his going to rehab has made headlines, this could actually be a great career move for Manziel. Here's proof of 4 other sports stars that have come back better, faster, and stronger after turning their lives around.
Hamilton became addicted to drugs after an auto accident in 2001, and didn't play baseball from 2002-2006 because of drug use suspensions and injuries. Even after this and being traded between multiple teams, he hit "a record 28 homers in the first round of the 2008 All-Star Home Run Derby, and finished second." In 2012 he also had a salary of $15,250,000 with the Rangers, and is now entering the third year of a five-year, $125 million contract with the Angels. We'd say he's doing pretty okay after some bumps in the road.More »
Michael Phelps may just be the best swimmer of all time, but it hasn't come without its costs. Being in the limelight can mean a lot of endorsements, but also a lot of pressure to keep the "golden boy" status quo. Phelps unfortunately fell short of that when he was photographed smoking marijuana back in 2009. He was suspended for several months and lost a huge sponsorship with Kellogg for it. He earned the love of US citizens again when he won several gold medals at the 2012 Olympics, but lost our trust once again this past fall with a DUI. He has since taken some time away from swimming, and was seen yesterday doing some charitable work. Here's hoping this is a sign he's headed towards the straight and narrow again. It would be a waste not to see where he can take that champion potential next.More »
Ricky Williams gained champion status in 2002 with the Miami Dolphins before a few year span where he was repeatedly caught violating the NFL's drug policy. After some time away from the NFL where he played in the more lenient Canadian League and taught yoga, he returned to the Dolphins, agreeing to thrice-weekly drug tests. He also trained as a massage therapist in his spare time.More »
Rob Van Dam was a huge wrestling hit and a hero to ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) fans everywhere. He became the ECW world champion in 2006, but his "success was short lived when he was stopped by police with marijuana in his car." He quickly lost both titles and wound up leaving the WWE in 2007. His career wasn't over however, and he joined TNA Wrestling in 2010. Within weeks of making his debut for the company, he won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.More »
Manziel may be known for having a little too much fun, but this isn't necessarily new to many college-aged kids, or even sports heroes. Legends like Jim Thorpe and John Riggins who definitelyknew how to have a good time? Let's just hope rehab helps reign it in a little. We wish you the best Johnny! More »
