The Different Ways In Which Emergency Vehicle Can Alert Motorists

An emergency vehicle can use lighting and sirens to alert other motorists on the road. There are many different types of emergency vehicles. There are vehicles which are headed on a search and rescue mission. There are patrol cars on the highways involved in accident wreckage clearance or high speed car chase. There are medical ambulances speeding to or from the hospital and fire engines which are heading for fire rescue operations. There are towing vehicles, trailers and heavy equipment carriers which too need some way to alert other motorists on the road to maintain a safe distance. The vehicles might need to send across a warning signal to other interceptor vehicles or to the general public requesting them to pull out and offer a clear path for going through. This can be done in many ways although the challenge gets bigger in case of bright day light, high ambient light or noisy traffic.

An emergency vehicle can choose between full length light bars and compact emergency lighting equipment. The full length light bars used by bigger fire engines could be anywhere between 44 to 72 inches in length with several LED segments, corner strobe light heads, alley lights and flashing takedowns. On the other hand, compact equipment used by emergency vehicles include dash lights, mini light bars, deck lights, visor lights, grille lights and even beacons. These are smaller, portable and inexpensive and hence ideal for smaller vehicles or smaller budgets. The mini bars are usually 16 to 20 inches in length while the dash and deck lights are usually 9 to 10 inches in length. Most of these emergency lights are slim for easier handling. The slimmer design also makes them concealable and aerodynamically efficient when mounted externally.

Emergency vehicles can alert motorists using flashing strobes with built in flash patterns such as quad bursts with very high lighting output. Dual colored LED segments are also used in some cases so that multi-colored beams can be emanated from the lighting equipment. Sometimes a combination of white LEDs and colored lenses and filters is used to achieve the same purpose. Strobe lights are also used to complement headlights and tail, turn and brake lights of the emergency vehicles. These are designed to operate in the harshest of weather conditions resisting tough usage as well. The vehicles can also benefit through the installation of a compact but effective siren.

Surface mounted sirens on emergency vehicles can prove effective to reach out to vehicles moving a long distance ahead. These sirens come with a variety of built in siren tones which can be operated using switches or horn ring. Both sirens and lighting equipment used on emergency vehicles are designed for vibration and corrosion resistance, using black composite nylon, polycarbonate or anodized aluminum. The equipment offers longevity which is further guaranteed by no hassle warranty that could extend for up to 5 years. The flash patterns and siren tones can be operated using Scan Lock mechanisms which make operation of the equipment easier.
