Get your game in gear with this fully, comprehensive review of all the essentials of practice. From remembering to mix things up to working on your weaknesses, this series was a big hit first time around, and now its time for a refresher session. Ready? Lets go!
When we first tucked into what it is that makes practice so important, we touched on arguably the most important thing you need to do first and foremost; the dartboard. Whys it so important? Well, its where all the action happens of course! Like a billiards table in billiards, and a soccer pitch, its where all your action is played out. So you need to get it aligned correctly, which is what EOP I did.
It wasn't just about the board, though. It was about your darts room in general. I mean hey, some people just prefer to head to their friends house or down to the local pub to have a practice. But some people take it deadly serious, and set about building a darts room they can be proud of in their own home! And EOP I gave you everything you needed to know about what you need to become the best in practice.More »
After we ensured you had the right board and how it was setup correctly, we moved onto EOP II. Part two looked at how important it was to keep practice serious. I mean, its still practice at the end of the day, nowhere near a game situation, but its still important if you want to become as a good player as you can be.
We touched on how important practice can be in a variety of ways, including how to add exciting games to your practice regimes, and how to set goals for yourself. There was also a section on simulating matchplay, to stimulate your mind in those practice sessions that can drag a touch!More »
Onto part three, and after discovering the fundamentals of the board, and the importance of getting serious in front of that dartboard, we found out just how key it was to mix up those practice sessions.
Doing the same thing time after time is boring, in any walk of life. Lets at least admit that, right? So when we apply that to darts, there's something pretty simple we can do to make practice fun. Change what you're doing frequently!
We have to practice in order to become better players. But simply stood in front of a board throwing at the same target for an hour can become tireless: heck, even the pros would tell you that. So it's important to keep tinkering with your practice regime, adding and taking away things in order to keep things fresh. Similar to what you'd to in any sport: pro footballers don't use the same drills in training every day, do they?More »
The fourth installment of essentials of practice, and arguably one of the best.
Sportsmen - not just dart players - should know what their weaknesses are. We would all openly admit we aren't perfect at everything (otherwise we'd be pros, wouldn't we!). However, if you're just starting out in darts, and are new to the game, you may not know your weaknesses yet. You could struggle with a whole host of things: hitting doubles, keeping a steady arm, the straightness of your darts, a particular part of your action, anything. What's important though, is knowing what your problems are. That puts you in the best shape for your practice sessions.More »
