How to Open a Closed Swimming Pool
- 1). Remove the cover from the pool. You may need an assistant to help you with this task, depending on the size of your pool. Make sure few leaves and other debris enters the pool when doing so.
- 2). Hose off your pool cover on the grass, then fold it up and store it away until it is time to close the pool again.
- 3). Unplug the pipes that attach to the pool, assuming you plugged them up when closing the pool. This includes the drain and filter pipes.
- 4). Place the skimmer baskets back in their settings, then re-install the jet spigots if you disassembled them when closing the pool.
- 5). Re-attach the pool pump to the appropriate pipes. You may need a pipe wrench to assist you in this endeavor, depending on what type of pump you have.
- 6). Re-install any deck equipment such as ladders. Screwdrivers and/or socket wrenches may be necessary to fully secure the equipment to the deck.
- 7). Turn on the filter and any other powered devices in the pool, then test the pool with your pool test kit to determine the chlorine content of the water.
- 8). Add shock chlorine to the pool. Place a cup at a time into the water, then test the pool between each cup with your pool test kit until the chlorine content of the pool is at least 3.0.
