Freedom Over Texas 2014

106 56

Each year, the City of Houston provides its dwellers with a spectacular Fourth of July celebration in Downtown Houston. Mayor Annise Parker's annual Freedom Over Texas event is held every July 4th and features live entertainment, food, drink and of course an extravagant fireworks display. Several stages will be erected throughout the Theater District and used for musical performances by nationally-known artists.

Freedom Over Texas takes place on Friday, July 4, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Admission: $8/person until July 3, $10/person July 4 (children 5 and under are free)

Dr. Pepper One of a Kind Zone:

This zone is the newest kid on the Freedom Over Texas block. Here you'll find a spot to temporarily escape the summer heat, live musical performances by John Evans Band (Indie Rock), Chris Ardoin and Nustep (Zydeco) and Jason Allen (Country), festival fare including Dr. Pepper floats and a live graffiti performance by artist GONZO247 of Aerosol Warfare.

Bud Light Lime-A-Rita Beach Bash:

Cool off at this crowd favorite zone and explore the Beer Garden as well as this year's newest addition - a Tiki Bar. Appearing again this year will be the Build-A-Bar booth.

KBR Liberty Park:

This area is designed to pay homage to the men and women who dedicate their lives to defending our country in the form of an exhibit featuring an M-60 tank and other military vehicles. Recruiters from the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and the Houston Fire and Police Departments will be on site so if serving our city or country is something you've ever considered, take advantage of the opportunity to have your questions answered face-to-face.

Be sure to stop by the photo booth for some fun shots as well.

Musical performances on the KBR Liberty Park stage include American Swindle (Southern Rock), Radio Live (Soul/Pop/R&B) and Original Legends of the Blues (you guessed it....Blues).

Southwest Airlines Sky Stage:

This isn't your typical stage and it's far from the typical performance. The Southwest Airlines Sky Stage features vintage aircraft flying thousands of feet above festival-goers throughout the entire day. Aircraft includes a B-25 Mitchell, P-51 Mustang and a B-17 Flying Fortress all brought to you by the Lone Star Flight Museum.

Labor Day Events

Walmart All American Kid Zone:

Freedom Over Texas ensures that family members of all ages have a blast, including the little ones. The always-jumping Walmart All American Kid Zone packs all the exciting activities your kiddos can handle including face-painting, henna tattoos, stilt walkers, clowns, magicians, jugglers and more. If that's not enough, there are plenty of free rides to be ridden and games to be played. All this fun will be set to the sounds of DJ Cordero Jenkins.
