How to Change a Taillight Bulb on a 1999 Mazda Pickup
- 1). Lower the tailgate of your pickup. Remove the two mounting screws from the front of the taillight cover with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the two retaining screws from the inside edge of the tailgate area with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 2). Pull the taillight assembly out away from the tailgate. Grab the base of the bulb socket behind the taillight assembly, twist it slightly counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the taillight assembly.
- 3). Pull the bulb straight out of the socket and discard it. Insert the new bulb into the socket by pressing it straight in until it is secure. Insert the bulb socket into the taillight assembly and twist it clockwise until it locks in place.
- 4). Return the taillight assembly to the mounting area on the rear of the truck. Install the retaining screws on the inside of the tailgate area and tighten them with a Phillips screwdriver. Replace the mounting screws on the front of the taillight assembly and tighten them with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 5). Repeat the process on the opposite side if needed. Close the tailgate and test the new bulbs.
