Whenever we hear about someone's house going up in flames, we are sad for them, but we hold out a little hope that home insurance will cover them.
However, our hope is crushed because the news reporter informs us that there is no home insurance.
The expression, "fire is a good servant, but a bad master," has been around for many years and this has not changed.
A person may have spent a several months building their house, but within a blink of an eye, it can go up in flames.
Some fires are preventable and with the hope of helping to prevent some of them that begins in the kitchen, these tips are put forth.
Lighters and Matches Some children are very carious about fire and so as to get to know more about it, they may take every opportunity that is present so that they can learn more about it.
Therefore, do not leave the lighter and matches lying around in the kitchen.
Always replace them into a locked cupboard that is out of their reach.
Additionally, when you are finished using a lighted match always make sure that it is out before throwing it into the garbage.
You can do so by putting it under some water.
Sometime, when we think that the match is out, we drop it into the garbage and a few minutes after, it burst into flames because it was dropped on a piece of paper.
Replace Burners/Elements Sometimes burners that need to be replaced can contribute to a fire on the stove.
Therefore, if you find that your burners are not working in the correct manner and you have had the stove for a few years, now may be the time to replace them.
That is, is the flame too high or too low, is it giving off any other color apart from a soft blue and things along that line.
When Cooking It is wiser to remain in the kitchen whenever the stove or oven is on.
This way, you will be able to catch any problems as soon as they arise in there.
Additionally, never allow the electric kettle's cord, or any other cord to drape across the stove because it opens the door to it coming into contact with the fire or heated elements and causing a fire.
Curtains should also be kept away from around a stove and it does not matter if the window is closed all the times.
Prevention is the key here.
