One of Spain's biggest Autonomous Communities is Andalucia which comprises the provinces of Seville, Huelva, Crdoba, Malaga, Ja©n, Almeria, Cdiz and Granada.

Each province of Andalucia holds its own fascinating culture and traditions with a host of ancient monuments from Moorish, Roman and Celtic eras. The towns and cities are set against beautiful natural landscapes of hills, mountains, sea and beaches.

Each city in Andalucia has specific offerings to entice the tourists as these cities compete to be the best in Andalucia.

The history of Andalucia is colorful and long through the many centuries it has been occupied by various influences. The Moors who were of Arabic and Berber descent occupied Andalucia for about 800 years with a lot of culture and traditions instilled and lived out even till today. Civilization was said to be refined in the Middle Ages especially at Granada, Cordoba and Seville. However, the Christian Reconquesta remained a strong influence in later years after recapturing the region.

Granada has a lot of well preserved Moorish monuments that reflect the strong Muslim influence at that province with the building of the Alhambra. This is the biggest and most impressive palace in Europe. Seville showcases spectacular Gothic cathedrals with some of the largest in the world.

Huelva conducts its fishing activities with vigor as an important regional port that is surrounded by quaint villages and towns with much of the natural beauty around.

Activities

There is plenty to do and see in Andalucia. Its many villages, towns and cities can stop one at their tracks with the myriad of activities available at each place. Strolls and trekking activities are plentiful on the beaches, forest reserves or at the mountain ranges. Skiing and skating are available on the Sierra Morena and Sierra Nevada.

Tourists would be enthralled by Spain's traditions and cultures like flamenco dancing and bullfights. However, there is no lack of festivals and fiestas which are vibrantly celebrated throughout the year.

The Andalucian sacred pilgrimage procession is well attended from all over Spain as well as outside. Many tourists come as observers and participants. There are Lent in February and the Semana Santa in March with Good Friday and Easter April that comes with carnivals and bull runs.

Many of these fiestas and festivals are vibrantly celebrated with dancing, music, food and fireworks. There are long street processions with elaborately decorated processions and parades as participants are donned in their traditional costumes.
