Vizard's Restaurant:

Chef Kevin Vizard has relocated his restaurant to the site of the old Alberta's on Magazine Street. In a lovely setting with lots of windows, Vizard has maintained its excellent menu in its new surroundings.

Appetizers:

Crabmeat Nelson is jumbo lump crabmeat atop fried egglplant, with crimini mushrooms and bearnaise sauce, and is one of my favorites. We also love the Carpetbagger Oysters (gilled steak wrapped oysters with brie).

If you're going for something lightert, you can get soup, gumbo du jour, or one of several salads.

Main Courses:

Lunch tends to be more casual, with offerings such as Cobb Salad, Shrimp and Oyster BLT, or an omelet. You can also try a flank steak or grilled gulf fish with all of the trimmings. For dinner, the Glazed Duck and Vitello Tonatto (Tournedo of veal, tunal and artichoke)are wonderful. There is a great filet as well as rack of lamb, which my one of my lamb-loving friend finds delicious and tender. Other entrees are available, and many evenings showcase specials not on the menu.

The Wine List:

The wine list consists chiefly of French and California labels, with a few from from Australia, Chile, and Spain, and Italy. There's french burgundy, a lot of California cabernets, French bordeaux, merlots, and zinfandels for red wine lovers. For you white wine enthusiasts, there are a lot of choices in the chardonnay department, and a few international sauvignon blancs. Some Italian wines are showcased here, such as a pinot grigio and Gavi di Gavi.

Where:

Vizard's is now at 5015 Magazine Street in New Orleans. (504)529-9912. It's not on St. Avenue anymore, but don't worry, the menu hasn't changed.
