Chasing Waterfalls

103 208
I live in a country graced with beauty.
From the blue, blue peaks of the mountains, to the white, white beaches of our coast.
There's the dry, warm climate of the Kalihari and Karoo and then there's the almost subtropical regions of the Lowveld.
Now if you've never been to South Africa, I can strongly urge you to come and see these spectacular views.
I've had the privilege of going up onto Table Mountain at night and beheld the city of the Cape at my feet.
I saw the Springboks show of with their wild jumps, head held high.
I've witnessed a cheetah stalking and catching his unsuspecting prey.
I've walked the Wild Coast, and felt the freezing temperatures of the rose city Bloemfontein.
Living in Mpumalanga, the Lowveld as it is natively called, for almost fifteen years, we've never had a problem to show some dear sites to our visitors.
On top of most of their lists were two basic things, the Kruger National Park and the waterfalls: The Lisbon, the Bridal Veil, Maria's shires, Mac-Mac Falls, The Sabie Falls, and the Berlin Falls are just a few of them, all within a 100 km radius driving distance.
Nothing grasps your attention so much as standing at the bottom of the Bridal Veil, looking up and seeing this magic stream dropping down almost 60m and getting soaked by the fine spray it causes on the up rise; or to look down the Lisbon Falls at this vast volume of water, ensuing a rainbow of colors in the late afternoon sun.
Not to mention the wide spread of the Forest Falls where you can stand knee-deep in its lake underneath.
And then when you tire of all this magnificence, you meander over to God's Window.
To walk the winding steps and path up to and through the natural rain forest, to look out over the escarpment below.
The awesome vastness of what lies beneath can take your breath away, and if you're blessed with a clear day, you'll be able to see up to Maputo and its coastline.
From here you can go on to the Three Rondawels and further you'll end up at the Pot Holes.
Seeing such splendor can help you forget about your woes and sorrows.
Yes, I live in South Africa, known for its violence and crime.
But I also live in South Africa know for the richness in its natural beauty.
I live here, and am proud of it.
I'm not afraid, just alert and careful.
As we all should be.
Everywhere we go.
Come see, enjoy and experience the wildness of Africa.
