How to Make Some Shaker Style Crafts
- 1). Peel off the label on a small soda bottle. Remove the cap and paint the cap with orange craft paint. Pour in pony beads so that the bottle is a little over half full. Twist the cap onto the bottle. Cut out fin shapes out of craft foam and glue them on the sides and top of the bottle with craft glue. Cut out a fish tail shape and glue it to the bottom of the bottle. Add small black pieces towards the front of the bottle to be eyes for your fish shaker. This can be designed to create any animal with matching colored pony beads.
- 2). Paint the outside of two small soda bottles white after removing the labels. Allow the paint to fully dry. Paint two thick dowel rods any desired colors and allow them to fully dry as well. Pour some uncooked rice into the soda bottles. Insert the dowels into the top of the bottle. Tie a strip of felt around the neck of the bottle. Add stickers or embellishments to the outside of the bottles if desired. You have a pair of homemade maracas.
- 3). Decorate a plain paper towel roll however you or your child desire. Tear a couple squares of aluminum foil and cover one end of the roll with both squares. The added layer will help keep it from ripping. Use the rubber band to secure the foil over the roll. Crumple up a few balls of aluminum foil and drop them into the paper towel roll. Pour in some rice into the roll. Tear off a couple more pieces of aluminum foil and cover the other end of the paper towel roll, securing it with a rubber band. You now have a rain stick. When you flip the roll over you will hear the rice falling and creating a rain sound.
- 4). Peel off the label off of a ribbon spool. You can also poke a hole into the label to open the hole in the side of it instead. Pour some dried beans into the hole of the ribbon spool. Cover the spool's hole with masking tape to close it off and prevent the dried beans from falling out. Paint the ribbon spool with paint and allow it to dry. Decorate the spool with stickers or small appliques and embellishments if desired. You have a simple party shaker. Different-sized spools create different tones when you shake them.
