Free online Sat Math Practice Questions:
Example 1 for free online sat practice test:
There are 160 balls, three times as many are green, and the rest are other colors. How many are green and how many are other colors?
Solution:
There are three times as many green balls as there are of the other colors,
Hence, there must be 3 green for each 1 of another color.
Given that 3+1 = 4, take `160/4` and get 40.
On solving this we get, 40 sets of balls with 3 greens and one of another color in each set.
The total is then 40 `xx` 3 = 120 green and 40 of another color.
Answer Check:
Number of green balls = 120 balls
Remaining balls = 40
Total balls = 120 + 40
= 160 balls.
Example 2 for free online sat practice test:
Arun's age is 8 years less than 5 times Raja age. The sum of their ages is 46. Find the age of each.
Solution:
Let the age of raja = X
Age of arun, Y= 5X – 8
X + Y = 48
-5X + Y = -8
X + Y = 46 (subtracting)
-6X = -54
6X = 54
Divide 6 on both sides
`(6X)/6` = `54/6`
X = 9
Plug in x in equation 1.
Y = 5(9) – 8
Y = 45 – 8
Y = 37
Arun age = 9 yrs
Raja age = 37 yrs.
