How To Make A Solid Shed Base

103 13
The base of a shed is probably the most important part of the entire shed structure.
If the base is not solid or on a suitably prepared terrain then it could topple, rot or lean.
So the first and possibly the obvious thing to check is; is the ground level, if not then considerable time should be devoted to digging and preparing the area.
Once the ground is level, some sort of canvas or plastic sheeting should be laid down (to prevent grass, weeds or other plants from growing under the shed) lay some loose gravel on the plastic sheeting to stop it blowing up.
Secondly depending on the size of the shed, concrete blocks or bricks should be used on the corners and in the middle to provide an adequate flow of air under the structure to prevent moisture build up (rot setting in).
Thirdly you will need to get some 2"X8" wood treated joists to lie flat on the concrete blocks running the length of the entire shed.
Again the number of joists to be used will depend entirely on the size of the shed, so I can not say use 3 or 4, as you will have to decide that yourself.
Finally to create a really solid base, 2"X6" treated joists should be placed horizontally at 12" or 30cm intervals, then these should be nailed or screwed at 90 degrees to the flat lying joists below.
Ensure that sufficient nails/screws are used because once the floor boards go on, you will not be able the go back down to that level to sort out any wobbly joists.
