    Education

    • A project coordinator position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree. The degree type depends on the project industry. For example, a project coordinator in a software company requires a degree in computer science while those working in a business environment or manufacturing company should have a degree in business management. Project coordinators should complete courses in business ethics, accounting and leadership.

    Skills

    • Project coordinators must have good verbal and written communication skills to direct the activities of team members and update management on the progress of the project. Professionals must be analytical and have decision-making abilities when leading a group. Coordinators must have strong organizational skills to break down the goal of a project into activities. The individual in charge of the activities of a group may need conflict resolution skills as well.

    Salary

    • According to PayScale, the average salary of a project coordinator is between $34,566 and $51,761 as of December 2010. The experience of the professional can affect the salary range a project coordinator earns. For example, project coordinators with 20 years of experience or more can earn salaries of $46,556 to $75,091 while those with less than a year on the job earn a range of $31,223 to $40,685.

      Coordinators may also work for a variety of employers, which may affect the salary range as well. A project coordinator working for a company earns a salary range of $36,658 to $52,550 while those working for the Federal government earn a range of $35,000 to $86,372, according to PayScale.
