Show Summary:

After weeks of talking about the dangers of texting and talking while driving and urging viewers to sign the No Phone Zone Pledge to save lives, Oprah held the first National No Phone Zone Day with 5 rallies around the country to spread the word.

From Detroit, Boston, Los Angeles, Atlanta and D.C. - Oprah had help from Ali Wentworth, Derrick Ashong, Lisa Ling, Holly Robinson Peete and Gayle King, as well as celebrity friends, corporate heads, and politicians to share how people are getting the message and committing to make the change.

In addition to the rallies, stories of families who lost loved ones were featured.

Special Highlights:

This episode featured the following highlights:
  • Viewers were given the option to go to Oprah.com to sign the No Phone Zone pledge, or texting NPZ to 30644 and choosing one of three different selections.

  • The rallies were filled with students and families excited to support the movement to get eyes on the road instead of on the phones.

Oprah featured the commercial that will hit the air that highlighted the stories of families who had been touched by a distracted driver, whether their parent or a child, Oprah wanted lost lives to be a guiding light in the right direction.

What to Take Away from the Show:

The most important message to take away from this episode is to sign the No Phone Zone pledge and commit to not texting while driving, only using handsfree, or not using your phone at all while in the car.

The most touching part of the show was listening to the families share how their lives had been turned upside down by their loss and how they too had once thought that they could multi-task while in the car, but experiencing the worst possible consequence to that action changed how they looked at texting while driving. Let their lives be the guiding force that helps you put the phone down today.
