Weight Loss - Not Just A New Year Resolution!

103 44
Well, it's that time of year again isn't it? The beginning of January, and the time of "new year resolutions".
According to a recent poll, the top 10 resolutions for 2014 are: 1.
Lose Weight 2.
Get Organized 3.
Spend Less, Save More 4.
Enjoy Life to the Fullest 5.
Stay Fit and Healthy 6.
Learn Something Exciting 7.
Quit Smoking 8.
Help Others in Their Dreams 9.
Fall in Love 10.
Spend More Time with Family Why new year resolutions fail How many of these will last more than one month? Not many, I would suggest.
The same ones seem to pop up year after year.
More than that, though, is that no.
1 is always the same...
Lose weight! How do most people go about that? There are mainly 2 ways.
First is to go on a 'diet', and the 2nd is to join a gym.
The problem is that these things are rushed into, without giving them too much thought.
Going on a 'diet' for the majority means eating lots of salads and healthy things, but then get fed up after a couple of weeks because they have lost only 1 lb! Joining a gym has a similar outcome.
You go for a month, 3 times a week, then stop, because the only thing that is lighter is your wallet! Obesity and illness There is no harm in wanting to lose weight.
Let's face it, obesity is a massive problem in the world today, especially in the USA, where two thirds of the population suffer from it, plus 1 in 5 teenagers.
It is no surprise, then, that losing weight is an absolute priority for a lot of us.
Obesity is an ever increasing factor in the amount of medical conditions affecting people the world over: like diabetes, heart problems, kidneys, gallstones, cancer, and strokes.
It is a long list.
It is perfectly understandable how people get disillusioned with their weight loss failures and lapse into the old habits of eating the wrong things, like chocolate, chips, fast foods, biscuits, burgers, etc.
etc...
However, there is no need to despair.
Losing weight is something that is absolutely achievable by absolutely anybody, as long as you have a plan of action and determination.
Yes, it is important to lay out a plan.
Don't just jump into any old diet expecting to drop 10 lb's in the next week.
It won't work and all you will lose is your will to lose weight.
Have a good plan So start off on the right foot by attacking your weight loss the right way.
Set yourself an attainable, sensible target.
Put your target down on paper and pin it somewhere that is visible to you daily, like on the front of the fridge, for example.
To begin with, you will need to find the best nutrition for your needs, depending on your particular body size, and shape plus taking into account the target you have set for yourself.
A visit to your doctor or a professional nutritionist would be the best option, but there is plenty of help on the internet nowadays.
Using smaller dishes and plates for smaller portions is a good idea, and drinking plenty of water is good for cleaning out the toxins in your body.
On top of your new weight loss program, do a little exercise.
There's no need to go exerting yourself! A good daily walk will make a difference, then you can increase your exercise as your body starts to feel healthier.
Remember, if you keep your targets sensible, and stick to your plan, you will succeed.
Weight loss the right way is about getting into a whole new lifestyle, not just starting a 'diet'.
One thing is for certain.
Losing weight is not going to happen in days.
It is going to take time.
There will be days when you hanker for a burger & some fries, or some chocolate, but stay focused and try to replace those with, maybe a baked potato or a fruit salad? Healthy food is delicious food You and your family will be amazed at how tasty and delicious some healthy recipes are.
Hopefully, once you start experimenting with them, you will continue to do them for you and your family.
Obesity is not something that can be overcome with a 'new years resolution'.
It is a serious condition and takes a lot of time, patience, a good plan, will power, exercise, and, frankly, a lot of guts.
So here's to a happy and healthy new year!
