How to Install the Cord on a Four Cord Dryer

    • 1). Unscrew the two screws on the dryer cord access panel on the back of the dryer. Turn the screws counterclockwise, remove them and set them aside.

    • 2). Feed the dryer cord in the hole at the bottom of the access panel so that the four wires protrude from the access panel. A four cord dryer connection includes a red, white, green and black wire.

    • 3). Loosen, but do not remove, the middle screw in the row of three screws with a flat screwdriver. Pull the green wire out of the dryer access panel that attaches to the dryer itself. Slide the green wire and then the white wire under the screw and hold both in place with one hand while tightening the screw entirely. Some models of dryers have a metal ground strap underneath this screw to attach the green and white wires.

    • 4). Loosen the green screw on the body of the dryer outside the access panel. Slide the green wire under the screw and tighten completely. The green wire is the ground wire from the electrical cord and uses the metal of the dryer for its ground.

    • 5). Place the red wire and black wire on either side of the white wire underneath the two screws. The red and black wires complete the electrical circuit for power and can be on either side of the white wire.

    • 6). Replace the access panel and tighten the two Phillips screws by turning them fully clockwise. Plug the appliance cord into an electrical outlet.
