Be Found by Those Who Seek

103 201
Ever wondered how many searches Google generates every day.
By 2012 statistics this is a staggering 5.
1 billion searches per day.
Google has a global market share of 89% globally.
Bing, Baidu and Yahoo! account for 10% more.
These are the people who most probably do not know us.
They do not know about our products and services.
So they are potential customers.
And for our business to succeed they need to find us and try us out.
An entire internet practice started when search became a mass movement.
There was or still is a scamper to be at the top of every search that the customer triggers.
This started a movement called search engine optimization (SEO).
A recent report by Forrester finds that the importance of SEO continues to grow.
In 2011 50% of users found their desired website through organic search.
In January 2013 the same figure stands at 54%.
In spite of digital marketing, search engine marketing and similar efforts, SEO still drives maximum traffic to the desired destination.
And SEO customer acquisition happens at a fraction of a cost compared to other high cost marketing efforts.
The main objective of the SEO is to position the company among the topmost searches in a search.
We understand that topmost results in the search will give maximum traffic.
But exactly how big is this impact? One study reveals that 95% of the visitors drop off between page 1 and page 2 of the Google search results.
The same study says that Number 1 in the search page takes away 32.
5% of the traffic.
The Number 10 gets only 2.
4% of the traffic.
Another study by Nielsen indicates that in non-branded search numbers 1 to 3 results get 61% of the clicks.
The balance 39% clicks go to number 4 to 10 results.
This review is good news for everyone.
There is good return of money even if we are not figuring in the top 3 results of the searches.
A study by Optify concludes that moving to the top position from number 2 or 3 in a Google search page can triple the traffic.
It is almost impossible to predict accurately the position in which a site will appear in a search.
So we should target to appear first in the first page and then work our way upwards to the top spot.
However, if we figure on a page beyond page 2 it has got no business value.
