How to Find Out What Memory Chip Speed I Need
- 1). Log on to http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php.
- 2). Download the software "CPU-Z." Select "32-bit, no install."
- 3). Launch the program once you have finished downloading the software.
- 4). Click on the tab titled "SPD."
- 5). Take a look at the "Max Bandwidth." This will show you the type and speed of your current RAM. Identify the speed by its unit "MHz." Write this number down.
- 6). Find out the current RAM size by going to "Control Panel." Click on "System" to open the "System Properties" dialog box. Click on the "General" tab to find out the current RAM size. It is normally measured in GB (gigabytes).
- 7). Go to any electronics store and look for a RAM that has a has a higher storage capacity than your current one as determined in step 6. Stick with the same type of RAM as determined in step 5. You may either purcase the same speed of RAM or a higher speed.
