Introduction and Materials
You?ve probably seen these glass leaf beads in just about every bead catalog and bead shop in the world. They are pretty common and are often used for fringe by bead weavers. But, they also make great charms. You just need some head pins and a place to dangle them from. Here I used them in an earring design, but you could also use these to dangle from links in a chain to make a matching necklace or bracelet.
Because of their golden color, they remind of me fall and the time of year when all the leaves change color.
You?ll need:
6 ? 10mm x 12mm leaf beads
*6 ? 1 inch copper head pins
*2 ? 11mm copper jump rings
4 inches of 21 or 22-gauge gold-filled wire
Round-nosed pliers
2 pairs of flat-nosed pliers
Wire cutters
Jeweler?s file
*The copper findings came from Ornametea.com.
For those who can?t wait, you can view the finished project by simply selecting the last step linked below.
Make Leaf Dangles
1. Start by adding a leaf to a head pin and use round-nosed pliers to make an unwrapped loop at the top of leaf. Notice that I?m orientating the leaf so the pointed side is flush against the head of the pin.
Finish Leaf Dangles
2. Repeat this for all six leaf beads.
Add Jump Rings
3. Now open a jump ring and add three leaf beads to it, and use two pairs of pliers, one in each hand, to close the jump ring back.
4. Repeat this processes for the other jump ring so that you have three leaves on each ring.
5. Finally, use gold-filled wire (or copper would look nice too) and make two ear hooks. I made sure to make the loop on the hooks extra large so it would fit around the jump ring with no problem.
6. Add each jump ring to each ear hooks to complete the pair.
