How to Become a Chartered Civil Engineer
- 1). Earn either a master's degree in civil engineering or a bachelor's degree with honors from an accredited program. Go to the ICE website (see Resources) and fill out a member application. If you are accepted, you will be a graduate member of ICE.
- 2). Practice as a civil engineer and gain experience. Find a mentor to help you meet your development objectives. As you work on learning more, you are in the initial professional development stage of becoming a chartered civil engineer.
- 3). Submit your professional review application to ICE. Write an experience report and a project report. Schedule and attend a review and pass your written test. In addition, you will be asked to pay a yearly fee for membership.
