The Effects of Bullying on Children With Anxiety
Bullying is a big problem for parents, and it is an even bigger problem for parents if their child has issues with anxiety on top of having to deal with being bullied.
Any one of these factors can qualify as bullying and it is tormenting for any child: • Kids taunting the victim for no apparent reason • Rumors being started and spread about the victim • The child being threatened • Lunch, lunch money or personal belongings being taken by force off the victim • The child might get beat up Children who suffer from anxiety already have a lot on their plate that they have to deal with, before adding the bullying.
Their life is already a nightmare, because they are constantly afraid and worried.
With the bullying, they now have an added worry that they have to deal with, which makes their situation even worse.
Worse, they are scared to tell their teachers that they are a victim of bullying for fear that this will fuel the bully's efforts.
Just as they are scared to tell the teacher, they are also scared to alert their parents about what is going on, because they know the parents will probably visit the school, which in their minds will make it worse.
So they suffer in silence as they fall deeper and deeper into depression and despair.
Parents might not be aware of what is going on with their kids, but they need to be aware when their child starts wanting to avoid school, or their grades start falling.
The child will also most probably have trouble sleeping and having a hard time mixing with other kids.
Parents need to notice and kind of changes in their kids that might let them in on what is going on with their kids.
The problems that kids go through as a result of bullying and anxiety are more likely to follow them into adulthood, if not dealt with properly.
No child should have to exist in a constant state of fear.
