Cleaning the upholstery inside your car may be a little more difficult than cleaning the exterior. For the best results, look for quality car upholstery products. There's a large variety of products on the market, but once you find one that works well for you, cleaning car upholstery may be less of a chore. - Portable auto vacuums are designed especially for car detailing. They have all kinds of attachments for getting inside little crevices, vents and other places where dirt hides in your car. Some vacuums even have shoulder straps to make the process more convenient.
- Spray fabric cleaners protect fabric from water, spills, mildew and even ultraviolet rays. Most car upholstery has a protective finish when new, but over time, the protective finish wears off. Spray protection replaces the original finish and should be used about once a year.
- Upholstery shampoo cleans grime and stains out of your car fabric. Spray the shampoo onto the upholstery, agitate it with a rag or soft brush, and wipe off the foam. Make sure the shampoo is appropriate for your upholstery; some are designed to clean any type of upholstery: leather, vinyl, suede or fabric.
- A good upholstery brush helps you get good results when you're cleaning the interior of a car. A good brush should have stiff, flared bristles and be made for carpet or upholstery. You can use an upholstery brush on fabric, cushions and carpet.
- Leather conditioners keep seats supple and strong. Over time, leather can become brittle, especially in dry climates. The conditioner acts as lotion for leather the same way lotion moistens our skin. Rub the leather conditioner into the leather with a soft cloth. This procedure should be done at least once a year.
