    • 1). Tape off trim, baseboards, sockets and other areas along the floor that should not be painted, using painter's tape. Use a broom to sweep up and remove and dust and debris settled on the floor.

    • 2). Fill a paint tray with masonry primer. Apply to the floor, using a paint roller attached to an extension pole. Start on the side of the room farthest away from the door. Paint toward the door to allow yourself to exit the room without ruining the paint. Allow the primer to dry.

    • 3). Fill an additional paint tray with the base color of paint. Apply the paint to the floor, using a clean roller and the same method used to apply the primer. Allow the paint to dry. If the color is not as vibrant as desired, apply a second coat.

    • 4). Tape a stencil along the edge of the floor to create an interesting border. Use a straight edge to ensure the stencils are straight and evenly spaced along the floor.

    • 5). Apply the accent color over the taped-down stencils, using a foam brush. Dab the brush into the paint and sweep over the stencil. Allow the stenciled paint to dry before removing the stencil. Continue to repeat this process until the entire border is painted.

    • 6). Pour clear urethane into a paint tray. Apply a thin coat of urethane to the floor, using a clean paint roller attached to the extension pole. Use the same painting method used in previous steps to prevent trapping yourself in the room. Allow the coat to dry. Apply two more thin coats of urethane. Urethane creates a clear barrier above the paint, which helps the painted finish last longer.
